There\u2019s a member at the gym I\u2019ve known for a while, but never really had the chance to talk to.<\/p>\n

The kind of person you don\u2019t need to explain\u2014when they\u2019re around, you just feel\u2026 better. Like you should be operating at a higher level without them saying a word.<\/p>\n

We finally had a conversation the other day. A real one. Life, parenthood, the world.<\/p>\n

At one point, he asked me something work-related. I gave him my answer, explained the situation, the circumstances behind it.<\/p>\n

He listened\u2026 then simply said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe standard is the standard.\u201d<\/p>\n

I tried to explain more. The \u201cwhy.\u201d The context.<\/p>\n

But his stance didn\u2019t move.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s when it clicked.<\/p>\n

He wasn\u2019t asking about my situation.<\/p>\n

He was asking about my response.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the message.<\/p>\n

Life happens. Work, family, stress\u2014things that feel unfair.<\/p>\n

But the standard is the standard.<\/p>\n

Not for anyone else\u2014for you.<\/p>\n

Your circumstances don\u2019t define your standard.<\/p>\n

Your response does.<\/p>\n

So even when you don\u2019t feel like it\u2026<\/p>\n

even when it\u2019s inconvenient\u2026<\/p>\n

even when it doesn\u2019t feel fair\u2014<\/p>\n

The standard is the standard.<\/p>\n
