Your Workout Starts at the Ground

Most of us don’t spend much time thinking about our feet.

We think about what workout we’re doing, how much weight we’re lifting, how many steps we got that day, or whether we actually made it to the gym when we said we would.

Our feet usually don’t get much attention until something starts feeling off.

Maybe your shoes always wear down unevenly. Maybe one foot gets sore after a long shift. Maybe walking on the treadmill feels fine for 15 minutes, but by the end of the workout something just doesn’t feel quite right.

Sometimes those little things are worth paying attention to.

It All Starts With How You Move

Whether you’re walking, running, squatting, lifting, or just standing during a long workday, your feet are part of the foundation underneath everything else.

That doesn’t mean every ache or pain starts with your feet, and it definitely doesn’t mean everyone needs orthotics. Sometimes better shoes, more mobility work, strength training, recovery, or simply taking a break can make a difference.

But if something keeps coming back, it can be useful to understand how you’re actually moving.

That’s where something like a gait analysis comes in.

A gait analysis is essentially a closer look at the way you walk: how your foot lands, how your weight moves through each step, and whether there are movement patterns you may not notice on your own.

It sounds simple, but most of us have probably never actually watched the way we walk.

We Stopped By Lebanon Orthotics

Recently, we had the chance to sit down with Marty Taylor at Lebanon Orthotics and learn a little more about what he does.

Marty works locally with people who need custom orthotics and those who simply want a better
understanding of how their feet are functioning.

What stood out to us was how practical the whole thing is.

It isn’t about convincing everyone that they need another piece of equipment. It’s about taking a look at the individual, seeing how they move, and figuring out what may actually make sense for them.

That kind of approach fits pretty well with how we look at fitness at Fitness:1440 Lebanon.

Your Shoes Are Part of Your Equipment Too

We talk a lot about gym equipment.

  • Treadmills
  • Bikes
  • Dumbbells
  • Machines
  • Resistance equipment

But your shoes are equipment too.

They’re what connects you to the ground during almost everything you do.

For someone who spends hours on their feet at work, walks a lot, trains regularly, or has dealt with recurring foot discomfort, the right support can matter.

Custom orthotics are designed around the individual rather than being a one-size-fits-all insert. They may be used to provide additional support or improve comfort depending on what a qualified professional sees during an evaluation.

The important part is simply not ignoring something that keeps bothering you.

If your feet are consistently uncomfortable or walking never quite feels right, it may be worth asking someone who works with this every day.

Another Local Benefit for Our Members

This is also exactly what we want our Fitness:1440 Member Value Program to be about.
It isn’t just a list of discounts.

We want to connect our members with local businesses and professionals that can actually be useful in everyday life.

Through our partnership with Lebanon Orthotics, Fitness:1440 Lebanon members can currently receive:

  • 10% off custom orthotics
  • Free gait analysis

Members can simply show their Fitness:1440 membership keytag when visiting Lebanon Orthotics.

It’s another small benefit of being part of the 1440 community, while also giving us another opportunity to support a local Lebanon business.

Pay Attention to the Little Things

Fitness doesn’t always mean doing more.

Sometimes it means noticing something small before it becomes something you keep working around.

Better sleep. A better pair of shoes. A mobility routine. A day off. Or simply learning a little more about the way your body moves.

The next time you step onto the treadmill, walk into a class, or set up for a lift, take a second to remember where that movement starts…

Right at the ground.
